Uku Ekere

This Story originates from Kairoku in Papua New Guinea.
The story teller told by Momo, young female from Nabbuaua Paka on the coastal region of Kairoku.
Uku is a fafa fish and Ekere is a Willy Wag tail. In the ancient time Uke and Ekere were feasting on a bread fruit.
When Uku’s belly was full, he became very thirsty and asked Ekere to find water to drink. Ekere fly from tree to tree digging in search of water. Ekere finally came to a sago palm tree and there he dug next to the sago tree, that’s where the fresh water came bursting out.
He went and told Uku about the water. Uku came and started drinking the fresh water. Uku drank and drank the water, he couldn’t stop. Eventually he became so fat that he couldn’t move. Ekere decided to get a canoe and rolled Uku into the canoe. Ekere had to paddle Uku down the river.
As they both travelled down all the other animals and insects were curious and decided to jump in the canoe.

More and more animals jumped in the canoe and they were all now exiting out of the river mouth. The canoe was so overcrowded that the canoe started to sink. They went closer to a little island out of the river mouth and all the animals and insects jumped off the canoe and swam to the little island. When they got to the island, they made a fire and sat around the fire, some of the animals were shivering and cold. The dog sat also and they all started telling stories.
As they were listening to the story telling, one of the animals started laughing. The other animals followed laughing and laughing. The dog wasn’t laughing. He was curious why all the animals were laughing, until he saw their eyes. They were all looking at his penis pulled back. When he realised that they were laughing at his penis, he got so angry and chased all of the animals away.
