The artist enjoyed bush trips and regularly participated in group outings- swimming and fishing. This painting shows ridge country (Foreground) at ‘Nine Mile’ on the way to ‘Banana Springs’ or ‘Laranji’ near the site of Old Texas Downs Homestead where the artist spent her childhood. A Banana plantation was established here by Texas Jack (Mortimer) Kelly founder of the homestead. The banana’s were grown here and taken to Wyndham for sale. The artist remembers going here during holiday time (wet season) as a young girl. There are no Banana plants here today because the artist said “the bullocks bashed‘em down”.
