The story:
This meaning of Dhangalau Mariel is Badu Island ancient spirits strengthening our dugong hunting and practises. This image depicts Mariel – the island spirits dancing around the dugong. These spirit beings are sending powerful messages of laws and protocols that must be followed when hunting dugongs. The stone fish represents that the law can be like the venom of a stone fish if you break the law. The consequences can be harsh, especially if dugongs are over hunted. A dugong sorcerer can take the hunter down, if this happens. Edition of 15 Printed by Dr David Jones in Brisbane, November 2018 on Hahnemuehle Weiss 300gsm paper using GC&I & Charbonell inks. Intaglio pulled, a la poupee.
