Arawadi. They come alive this one. Just a family this mob. This is a story about a mob of people who tried to make their country bigger. They came from a big blue hill near Turkey Creek and travelled across country into our land near Bell Gorge. They asked our big boss Wandjina Amalarr for more land. My Wandjina said “no”. He said to the Waringarri people, “lay down your spears, give me your fighting gear” They said “no”. So Amalarr called up all the other Wandjinas and said we will fight you for this land. So they all gathered for the battle. My Wandjinas won the battle and took away their spears; they then had nothing to fight with. Our Wandjina then killed all the Waringarri, put them into a big heap and swallowed them all in his guts. Inside they grew into eggs, after sometime his belly button broke off and all the eggs burst out and rolled across the country. They all cracked open and they crawled out, but look different like birds, snakes and goannas. They returned home through Mornington to Fitzroy and on to Tin Bay in the tableland. They were very cunning, they never went home. Its important people don’t take over other people’s land. Arawadi – The Turkey Creek Wandjinas different to ours. Our Wandjina put them in a big egg and send them away. You can see them now in the Tablelands. Ninbing. Rock paintings. Jack Dale
