Ros has depicted one of the staple food sources of the Tasmanian Aboriginal people – the scallop. Molluscs were very important as food. The 9 shells represent the 9 tribes of Tasmanian Aborigines. Interlaced through these shells is a shell necklace that represents the connections between these tribes. These necklaces were traded between the tribes and are now a highly sought after item. This painting is from the Tassie Critters series that Ros painted in 2003.
