This painting represents the site of Winbury, and with this work the artist has depicted the region in complete abstract and aesthetic terms, with a blend and depth of colours, quite simply it’s a treat for one’s eye, harlequins and pastels float and intermingle into a (mysterious) mystery of style, which only fits the epic journey of the two mythical sisters, know as the Kungka Kutjarra (two women). Winbury is their first ‘port of call’ so to speak after commencing from the starting lake. After reaching Winbury the big sister says ‘look back and see how far we’ve travelled’. Both start marking the stone outcrop with designs and patterns, showing all that had been seen on route. E.g. Sun, moon, stars, tracks and waterholes. Way past Luritja country into Arunta lands, then south through Pitjantjarra area and east to unknown areas and amazingly right back again to the starting place where they are said to remain in the heart of Luritja country.
