This story has been passed on to Pansy by her mother and her maternal grandfather. It represents country at Illpilli – about 400km west of Alice Springs towards the Western Australian border. This is the place where a hailstorm hit the community creating great damage. The large hailstones went deep into the ground and now the water that bubbles out of the spring there is cold, cold water. Pansy painted this surfboard after her partner Dean Herzog had crafted the board. It was submitted by Art Mob as a potential finalist piece for the 2008 Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Awards and was the signature piece for Pansy’s exhibition “Surfs up at Alice” at Art Mob in October 2010..
