Kundarmarraka Rockhole, also known as Lake Maitland, east/west of Willuna. This is the country painted by Lance. Rich with creek inlets, claypans, food plains and abundant bushfoods which grow on the banks of the lake. Lance says that this country is rich with gold and is his family’s native title land. A bit of history to this work (by Anthony Spry, Papulankutja Artists): This painting is on linen. It was one of the last rolls of linen handed to Cliff Reid which he did not complete and so then it was handed to Lance with Cliff’s name ‘blacked’ out. We don’t do many works on linen due to the cost, but now the next couple of Lance Peck works will be on linen… So basically what this means is that this linen lived with Cliff in Alice for the last 2 months of his life and then came back to Blackstone and then was painted in Wingellina by Lance.
