Inawinytji Williamson

The design for this rug is from an original acrylic on canvas painting by Inawinytji in 2001. The style of art is known as ‘walka’. The abstract images, enclosed within a boarder, are typical of this style which is unique to the Aboriginal women artists of the Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytajtjara Lands in remote, north-west South Australia. The natural environment influences the images used in Walka work. Animals, flowers and land formations are commonly depicted in the artists’ work.
