Inawinytji Williamson

Biography

Inawinytji Williamson is a senior traditional woman from Fregon, Anangu Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara Lands, 350km SE of Uluru. Her medium is acrylic on canvas with subjects relating to traditional foods and abstract images derived from the environment and the local Aboriginal culture. The style unique to the region is called ‘walka’. Prior to painting, Inawinytji worked in the medium of batik. The National Gallery of Victoria and Murdoch University in Western Australia have some of her batiks in their collections. Inawinytji is a very active community member, was the founding Chairperson of Ku Arts, and teaches music at Adelaide University.
