After Mick’s solo exhibition “Tasmanian Glimpses” in April 2006 he headed off to the Franklin River in south west Tasmania hoping to visit Kuta Kina cave – an ancient habitation site of early Tasmanian Aborigines. It was also a break from his usual activity to gain inspiration for works in the following year. This is his first piece following this trip. “This is a place on the Franklin River called Angel Rain. (It’s an area where the paddlers sheltered in an overhang for the night). As the moonlight was shining down the river at 3 in the morning it bounced off the water dripping from the tree roots at the entrance of the overhang. This place really lived up to its name – “Angel Rain” – “a very moving place in my dreamtime”. Mick Quilliam August 2006.
