One of my first experiences with eagle rays on the East Coast was shortly after I arrived. I was kayaking in the shallows in the northern corner of Muirs beach with Ness and the sandy seabed turned black. As we glided over the top we realized the large black patch was moving. It was a pack of rays all gathered together in a bunch. All of a sudden their tails came up and they darted off in different directions. The eagle rays are often seen making their way into the mouth of the river and into the lagoon to feed in the shallow water.
