Aboriginal men and women have been using traditional plants to weave nets and baskets with intricate patterns from the natural environment for centuries. This is an age old cultural custom. This painting is my interpretation of paying respectful homage to the Aboriginal women weavers, their connection to land, environment and their continuation of a rich cultural heritage. The collection of their natural fibres and the intricate patterns these gifted artists weave in making their baskets, bags and mats have been the inspiration for “Homage to the Weavers”.
