Kathleen Petyarre

This painting is a representation of the different grasses and small plants of the desert surrounding the country of the artist. Shimmering layers of dots represent these grasses and the great clouds of sand throughout the area. From these plants many seeds are collected for use as food and medicines. Also living within these grasses and shrubbery is a small lizard known as the Thorny Devil Lizard. This lizard is the totem species of the artist. These grasses are shown as the lines across the top of the painting.
