The story:

As a young girl the artist has had a fear of storms, especially when looking at the gathering storm clouds and the unknown of how bad the storm would be and particularly if the storm was a lightening storm. Until one evening as a young girl watching the storm clouds approaching with her family, she was told not to be scared because if you looked close enough you might be lucky enough to see within the billowing storm clouds the storm’s spirit dancer’s performing their dance throughout the storm clouds, and that the storm spirit dancer’s always performed a special dance during a lightening storm As a young girl I was so afraid of the lightning I would often sit in the dark for fear the lightning would get me. Until one particular stormy night standing with my family watching the approaching lightning storm I asked why did the clouds light up with colours when there was a lightning storm and was told that it was the colours of the lightning men when they danced. The crack you heard when the lighting hit earth was in fact the sound of the lightning men stamping their feet. I was told to particularly look for the “Big Lightning Man” for he was the one if angry could do the most damage and if he was around to treat him with respect and not to step in his way and that it was best “You just got out of his way to somewhere safe”. During a lightning storm you can tell which lightning strike is the “Big Lightning Man” because he always has 4 arms, (these arms can reach out and grab your living spirit from you) sharp nails, branched feet and an aura around him. This painting is the artist interpretation of the Daughters of the storm dancing their lightening dance The top of the lightning man represents the lightning man’s auras in the clouds.
