This painting is the artist interpretation of the Lightning Men. As a young girl the artist has always feared storms, especially when lightning would light up the sky. I remember as a young girl when lightning would light up the sky, my mother would open the back and front doors, to enable the lightning to pass through the house. As a young girl I was so afraid of the lightning I would often sit in the dark for fear the lightning would get me. Until one particular stormy night standing with my family watching the approaching lightning storm I asked why did the clouds light up with colours when there was a lightning storm and was told that it was the colours of the lightning men when they danced. The crack you heard when the lighnting hit earth was in fact the sound of the lightning men stamping their feet. I was told to particularly look for the “Big Lightning Man” for he was the one if angry could do the most damage and if he was around to treat him with respect and not to step in his way and that it was best “You just got out of his way to somewhere safe”. During a lightning storm you can tell which lightning strike is the “Big Lightning Man” because he always has 4 arms, (these arms can reach out and grab your living spirit from you) sharp nails, branched feet and an aura around him. The painting shows the “Big Lightning Man” with the lesser lightning men dancing. The top of each lightning man represents the lightning men’s auras in the clouds.
