This painting is the artist’s interpretations of the story of the Seven Sisters’ (the Plaeiades) journey The Ancient Greeks saw seven stars in the constellation Taurus, and named them after Pleiades, the seven daughters of Atlantis and Pleione. According to Greek myth, the hunter Orion was in love with them and pursued them until the gods took them to safety, transforming them first into doves, and then into stars. An Aboriginal story tells that at a certain time when the sun and moon is in a certain alignment and the Seven Sisters’ stars are seen in the Eastern Sky that it is then the time for celebration, the coming together to share stories and perform age-old ceremony. The painting shows the Seven Sisters holding their own special spiritual gift. Each of these spiritual gifts have specific purposes – the spiritual gifts of healing, sight, voice, tranquillity, story telling, keepers of lore, nurturing – together they become a strong spiritual force. The artist has depicted their journey to earth bringing with them their spiritual auras to spread throughout earth. The spiritual figures are the Seven Sisters carrying their spiritual gifts to spread throughout earth. Within the centre of the paintings is the artist’s representation of the sun, moon and the Seven Sister stars for this is the sign for people to begin the journey of coming together to celebrate The blue surrounding each sister and their journey represents the reflection nebula surrounding the star cluster. The mixtures of brown/green/yellow/orange dotting represent the earth. The U shapes represent people coming together to celebrate and share. The white dotting around the centre circle represents Spirituality, the continuing wheel of life.
