This painting is the artist’s interpretation of how dangerous something like a beautiful flowing river or the sea can trap an uninformed swimmer. The artist has always been told and believes that all rivers and the sea have spirits. These spirits can both drag and hold an unsuspecting swimmer or rescue them from danger. This painting depicts the sea spirits of the undertow waiting to catch and hold a swimmer who is swimming in the sea spirits undertow place of abode.
