The story:
Black & white ceremony clay pan. The central oblong shape refers to a sacred cave in the Warlpiri region and also represent Mother Cave – the leader of the Warlpiri people. The 3 rectangular shapes to the right represent the 3 tribal regions associated with Sam’s initiation – Warlpiri, Lurita & Pitjantjatjarra. The linear striping to the left is body paint design associated with Yankardi or Emu ceremony.
