The story:
Traditionally the ochre was collected by the women. This painting depicts how the fires were lit above the veins of the rocks that contain the ochre, the rocks then heat up and water is thrown onto the fire and the rocks. The rocks containing the ochre then split open, to reveal the ochre which is then collected. The dots represent the different colours of ocher across the land.
