Arnkerrthe (Thorny Devil) is my Grandmother’s Dreaming (Altyerr). Nancy Kunoth Petyarre passed this representation of the story on to me. Arnkerrthe carries coloured ochre used for Business Ceremony in the sack at the back of its neck. Arnkerrthe is responsible for the distribution of ochre throughout the Utopia region. He also changes colours to camouflage himself, and this range of colours is depicted in this painting.
