The story:

This painting is the artists interpretations of how the goanna is connected to her. The goanna was a delicacy for my family. My father loved them. When I was a child I feared and hated them. My brothers always used to say there were goannas hiding under my bed and were going to come out at night. That didn’t scare me so much. What scared me were their creepy long claws. I have painted the goanna with its claws accentuated to depict for me the power that the claws have. The stork-like bird is what my father called the goanna bird., they (the storks) could catch and kill a fully grown goanna. I have no idea what the bird’s proper name is. All I know is that I felt safe when they were around.
