Jack Dale paints the highly prized Djunba boards – large semi-circle boards covered in traditional designs [often of the Wandjina] and held above the dancing ceremonial participant’s heads, peacock style, flashing in the firelight. These days wool is woven around the outer edge of the Djunba board, which replaces the human hair ritually shaven from the heads of women in mourning.
