The story:

In 1983 Jan 2nd, very hot day, both my parents are about to drop me off at a place west of Alice Springs called Wallace Rockhole. For juveniles, first day, first few hours, Mum & Dad left, boss man Mr B A told me to roam around, hills, waterholes, do what you want cos tomorrow your do what I tell you to do, and you will do. Straight up. Then he added Don’t go over there, pointing towards the old horse yard. Then he went and laid down, cos it was very hot. As soon as he went inside his room, I went straight to the old yard. Nothing, I thought. What’s the big deal? Jumped through he yard, walked into the little scrub, stood in the middle, then, still, a movement. I looked up into the thin mulga tree, and saw what I thought was a little red robin. Then another blue & blue bird and no sooner had I time to focus on those 2, a third moved close to the other 2. It was a yellow one. I said to myself in amazement Look at that. I didn’t know there were yellow robins and blue robins. Turned out they were fairy wrens. I ran after them from tree to tree for some time for they would not stay in one place. Finally, after 10 minutes or so, they stopped in one tree for quite some time, I think then after staring at them for a while, it clicked in me, what was happening. I became a little afraid, realising the three birds are not what they seem. I knew thery can only be one thing – a kadatji man. So I ran very fast, a long way back to the homestead knowuing he can see me but I can’t see him. Nothing happened after that. Next day I met everybody, straight away all the people are telling me, on last week, all the kids, they was skipping over there, near that old yard. Then one kid looks around. There standing up with spear, painted up to the max, emu feathers galore. He stinks, which means he means business, death, etc. I never ever told anyone what happened to me.
