The daisy yam was a very important food source for Tasmanian Aboriginal people. It was harvested and eaten cooked over the coals of a fire. Extensive fields of these plants stretched out as far as the eye could see. The post-colonial introduction of hooved domestic animals has virtually destroyed this important food source.
