Summary of art work – by Dean Herzog 28 April 2019 Re: Art work compilation 5 artists over a period of more than one year beginning roughly 10 – 12 years ago. 2006 – 2007. The piece began its conception by: 1. Mary Derusha (a Makinac Native American artist) whose creative and innovative style with the use of bubble wrap imprints with acrylic paint onto belgian linen 2. A side view portrait (of Pansy) was painted on an original black silhouette by artist Titene Lazamau – a French man famous for his book “Women of the World”. 3. Pansy Nabanardi of course filled the colours of skirt and blouse, and shoulder bag. 4. Locally renowned Alice Springs artist Maggi Urban painted the baby in coolamon. She said she spent weeks changing numerous times to achieve a happy result with a sigh of relief. 5. Last, but not least, the late Kevin Namatjira who was kind enough to do the foreground. He (Kevin) said he had just the right idea. First off he was to paint spinifex grass, and salt bush, small plants. When he completed people jokedwith him there must have been good rain. He just laughed and smiled, maybe like the way his grandfather (Albert) would of. It was only months later that after the country around the central desert did receive weeks of heavy rain, that the small ground grasses and bush flowers began to bloom did we realise what Kevin had in mind when depicting his finishing touches to the work.
