This painting represents dolphins feeding as the sun sets at Macquarie Heads. Dolphins are common around the Tasmanian coast and often seen in Macquarie Harbour. Traditionally they rarely provided a feast but were exciting to watch and provide entertainment as they play in the water. A sight still admired by many today. There were 4 bands of our people living south of Macquarie Harbour and a further 8 bands to the north. People known as Mimegin lived at Macquarie Harbour. Stories, songs and material such as ochre and stone were exchanged along the west coast. What a spectacular meeting place!
