The story for this painting can be found in “The Land of the Sleeping Gods” page 118. Parawe the warrior was a master of the art of throwing the spear with his foot: it was known as nunte moye (whispering death). He was deadly accurate with the spear up to sixty feet and he would thin it down to fit snugly between his big and second toe. He would drag the spear along the ground, preferably in long grass – apparently unarmed – and when the victim realised, it was too late. Parawe’s spear was later tabooed.
