Ringing Rock is found on the West Coast and like several significant sites throughout Tasmania, it is a place of strong cultural and spiritual connection for me. It is a personal place; a place that provides a raw sense of presence of the traditional owners of the area. This site is now known as Trial Harbour on the coast of north west Tasmania. Mick tells that this rock, on the rocky beach, with a small stream flowing into the sea alongside, was very special to the local Aboriginal people. The men would sharpen their spears on this rock leaving the parallel lines that are very visible in the painting. The circular lines were formed by Aboriginal men scribing the circular motion with another rock. This circular motion would make the base rock ring with quite a loud sound.
