Mick Quilliam

Mick has painted his story about generational education – the passing down of knowledge from parent to child. He also shows the usual habitat of the Tasmanian Aboriginal people – the coast – where food sources were good. Molluscs including scallops, abalone, oysters and mussels were the usual food sources – all provided by Mother Earth who is depicted in the centre of the painting. He has also included the sea life that could be seen – whales, sting rays, dolphins and turtles. The central circle shows the journeying of Mick and his 2 daughters as the meandering black lines. These are superimposed on Mick’s handprint and those of his 2 daughters – 5 years old and 2 years old.
