Helicopter Tjungarrayi

This painting depicts some of Helicopter’s traditional country, located in The Great Sandy Desert, near Jupiter Well. This is the country in which Helicopter hunted and travelled as a young man with his family. The central circle is Murrawrungu soakwater. This country is good hunting for goanna and snake, and more recently camel. Sometime the water here ‘sleeps’, in that people must dig for it. The dynamic line either side is a creek line that drains into the soakwater. The rest of the painting, like the landscape it represents, is dominated by talis, or sand dunes.
