Tjemma has painted a food story from some important women’s country, south of Balgo in The Great Sandy Desert. This country is called Nakarra Nakarra, and features a series of hills, that during the Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime) were ancestral women who travelled through here on a long journey, part of the Seven Sisters Story. Around these hills is found lukarrar, or moongil, a small seed that is gathered together and ground to make flour for damper. The U shapes are the ancestral women sitting behind windbreaks, while women grinding and winnowing (kipirrnin) are also shown.
