Amal is the shadow of a cloud that is sometimes experienced by islanders out at sea when hunting for turtle and dugong. If the cloud is reflected on the surface of the water near the hunter's canoe, it affects visibility through the water, making it almost impossible to sight and successfully harpoon the turtle or dugong. Hunters returning home without a catch will say there was too much Amal. Amal is in fact a protector of the turtle and dugong.
