The artist has depicted a traditional dance at night. The fan shaped elements represent the hand held dance machines which are often used in Torres Strait Islander dances. The dance machines are usually articulated and and when manipulated during the dance performance they provide a mesmerising spectacle of movement and colour. The white horizontal lines below the dance machines represent the white markings that have been painted on the legs of the dancers. Leg movements are an important feature in Torres Strait Islander dancing which add to the beauty, rhythm and vitality of the performances.
