Only three prints of this work were ever editioned. As such it is an eminently collectable work. There is a colour variation in each print.
One print was made with a madubal dancer in the middle of this artwork – since sold. These 2 artist’s proof prints were a collaborative work between the artist and his friend and poet, Walter Waia. Like a number of Nona’s works he pushed the boundaries of conventional printmaking by incorporating the written word. Whilst this artist’s proof does not include the poem, we have included it to add meaning and context to the print. The artist’s imagery complements Walter’s verse that can read in tandem with each other. Walter’s poem reads – One day, somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere The sun rose full of energy with new hopes for you These were the dreams that you had been longing for Now it is your turn to take that big step and face the unknown. I was standing on an ancient soil on an island Somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere I too was looking for a dream to become my reality Then there was blossoming happiness There was lots of laughter and joy I called you my Indian Rose You were special for me I bought you flowers and made others Look at you with envy We visited exotic places around the world Our life was in bliss We had our ups and downs but all was well And that time of my career I was walking in the limelight of the public eye You were there beside me as proud as you can be Then we were blessed with the most beautiful flowers Who I saw coming far away from the universe And I gave them names of tribal significance The Colourful Rainbow and the Starry Sky They were here to cement our togetherness That we were heading in a different direction You wanted your way and I wanted mine It was a no win situation Diamond is very hard to find You won’t the value until it is lost Then it is said that if it is found it is yours forever Some decades I composed a song In the song I was the Fast Wind and she was the Water Lily Where I let go my stony walls and spread golden wings Where our story is in the sky with Milky Way and all the stars Then it is only a dream where is all according to your wish This is my connection to the ancestral spirit world © Sageraw Zia (W Waia)
