The story:
This piece was valued by Mary Macha in January 1998 at $3000. An unsold piece on bark by the same artist references as “Natural earth pigments on eucalyptus bark, 53.5 x 26.5 cm, Est: $10,000-15,000, Sotheby’s Australia, Important Aboriginal Art, Melbourne, 24/07/2007, Lot No. 29”. This appears to be a significantly more complex artwork that the bark on offer at Sotheby’s then.
