Freddie was born at Police Hole on Bedford Downs Station in 1946, he grew up on Bow River and Lissadell Stations, then worked as a stockman, fencer and horsebreaker on several stations in the East Kimberley. As a young man Freddie participated in tradional ceremony along with Jack Britten, Rover Thomas, Paddy Tjaminji and George Mung Mung. Freddie began painting with Waringarri Aboriginal Arts in the late 1980’s and joined Rover, Paddy, George and Hector who were then already painting with paints with Jirrawun and Red Rock Art. Freddies work is well represented in many major National and International collections. This work depicts the country of Mendoowoorrji, Medicine Pocket, located south east of Bedford Downs station in the East Kimberley. Mendoowoorrji is the name given to the line of hills running between the Ord River and Tungannary George. The area is crossed by creeks and watercourses running in open land with Wanggarmal, who camped here when she was a woman in the Dreamtime. It was an important camping place for local people before the arrival of Europeans.
