West of Kiwirrkurra near Puntujarrpa is a little jurnu (soak), Yirill. The artist and her sister got nyupa’s (husbands) from here. They walked all the way there and that’s where they fell in love. They walked back together to Jakayu’s country near Parngurr. One day near Winu Kurrujunu, a soak south of Parnngurr between Pirntu Pirntu creek and the Canning Stock Route, they first encountered white fellas. These white fellas gave them new names and took them to Jigalong Mission. Pilapu was Jakayu’s nyupa’s language name but after they moved to Jigalong they gave him a new name. The white fellas used to give them sweet things so they called him Lolly because he liked them so much. This painting was exhibited in Desert Mob 2012 at the Araluen Art Centre in Alice Springs, September/November 2012.
