Emma Nungarai

In this painting Emma depicts a women’s ceremony in honour of Yalka. The U shapes symbolise the women and the oval shapes depict coolamons (wooden dishes). The women use body paint on their breast, chest and arm area in ceremonies. It is an essential part of their lives to perform these ceremonies as they believe that they are in keeping with what is created on their land. Collecting bush tucker is a traditional role performed by Aboriginal women.
