George Wallaby

Gunambalayi or Kalbaardoo is the name for the python that made Lake Gregory (Barragoo) in the Dreamtime. The artists traditional name is Barragoo as he is the traditional owner of the lake which is situated south of Halls Creek on the northern edge of the Great Sandy Desert. This painting depicts a tree (Eucalypt) that is growing in the lake (wide black stripes). Barragoo remembers playing on it as a child. The snake Kalbaardoo lives in this tree and has made the branches very flexible and excellent for swinging on.
