“This is my country, gotta walk around everywhere”. Ngurra is very important to Martu people, it means home or country. In this painting the artist has painted her country. A long stretch of Kupi (Water) places around the Canning Stock Route as high as Kunawarritji (Well 33) and beyond. She has painted wells, yinta’s (fresh waterholes) and soaks. From the bottom of the painting and travelling up some of the Kupi sights are Juntu juntu, Walla walla, Yartalti, Nurkurlka, Kartuta, Nartawarlu, Wartapuni and Kurkapunyu. There are soaks everywhere in this country it is “long country” and they had to walk everywhere. Eventually the artist walked from here to Jigalong mission. It is a really long way but she Jamana (walked) all of the way. She had her little baby Gloria with her at the time, they were picked up not far from Jigalong at Parnngurr rock hole.
