The story:
This piece was painted by Natalie alongside her Grandmother, Jean Baptiste Apuatimi, during a period when Jean was producing works with Munupi Arts. There is a definite ‘hint of Jean’ in this work by Natalie. During ceremony on the Tiwi Islands a series of ‘yoi’ (dances), are performed; some are totemic (inherited from the person’s Mother) and some serve to act out the narrative of newly composed songs. This set was exhibited at the Tiwi Art Network exhibition at the Holiday Inn, Darwin, during August 2011.
