Two ladies were travelling the country from east to west. They were digging here and there looking for goanna and bush tucker. One of them was carrying a ‘karnilpa’ (wooden carrying dish) all the time. She was looking for a rockhole depicted in the centre of the painting which she drew water from and carried in her karnilpa. Another rockhole is called Kunma, a mosquito place. The country is west from Patjarr. Arthur, the artist’s husband, used to walk here with his family when he was a little boy, drinking the water from the waterholes. His siter was born at Kunma. There is a big creek running a ‘long way’, filling up the waterholes. The water is sweet. Surrounding the lake are the ‘tali’, sand hills. This is the artist’s husbands place and he looks after this country.
