Ray Tjapaltjari

This painting depicts the dreaming of two skingroups Tjungarrayi and Tjapaltjari travelling. The men wear belts made from human hair as well as adorning themselves with a material called Wamulu. The Wamulu is a pulp created from a small herbacious plant that is mixed with various ochres and other substances to get the desired colours. The lines depict the different skingroups travelling separately from Lajamanu to Arrabilong. The central motif depicts ceremonial ground designs and body paint. This painting featured as a key work in Art Mob’s “Highlights” exhibition in March/April 2007.
