Claypans were important for the birth of the Black Headed Python, this is where they had their children. Along the Lander River there are many, many patches of Claypans. They are great places for children to play, and also a creative place where we can build sandcastles and build things with clay. Claypans were important throughout this country because they were gathering places for the pockets of water that would allow the budgerigars and other birds to be able to drink without interference from other animals. This story tells the story of the clayplans along the Lander River system. When my Grandfather first saw this painting he said to me, ‘This is really, truly, a beautiful painting because you put it all together in the one story’. Generally we just paint the one story then add other bits in different paintings. But, I put the whole story together in this painting. – Malcolm Jagamarra
