The Ngatijirri Dreaming belongs to Napaljarri/Nungurrayi women and Japaljarri/Jungurrayi men. Ngatijirri (Melopsittacus undulatus) are small bright green budgerigars native to central Australia and common around the Yuendumu area. Men would hunt for Ngatijirri, robbing nests of eggs. Juvenile birds are considered a delicacy, as are the eggs. The men would go out hunting looking for Ngatijirri, swinging branches to kill the birds. The Jukurrpa site for Ngatijirri is Yangarnmpi south of Yuendumu. It travelled there from Patirlirri, near Willowra, and goes through to Marngangi, north west of Mount Dennison. Each time the flock lands they perform ceremonies, singing and dancing. In this painting Biddy has painted the digging sticks used for hunting the birds.
