ARGULA SPIRIT STORY The Argula spirit lives in a mountain called Yal Yaltji. His home is a series of caves inside the mountain. Argula, he can be a very cheeky bugga. Old people say the Argula will sit on top of the mountain and shake a Boab nut or edible beetles, these delicacies are the favourite foods of children living in camps nearby. When the children run up the steep mountain to fetch the food the Argula grabs them and takes them down into his caves. This particular Argula is very lonely and has no children. Sitting in his cave with the children, he talk so much he makes them deaf. After some time clever men from the tribe are sent out in search of the children. Looking down into the cave they entice the Argula out by shaking his favourite food, coloured lizards. They then rescue the children and take them back to camp to perform a special Djunba (dance) to restore their hearing.
