Wumali’s painting tells a story that was told to her by her mother. Wumali’s mother was born in the Great Sandy Desert south of Balgo. Before she travelled to live in Balgo, her family would hunt goanna and dig for bush potato and collect bush tomatoes. When the family moved to Balgo they were taught by the Walmajarri people how to collect sand frogs, something they had never seen before. The Walmajarri told them how to find the signs in the sand that indicated there were frogs burrowed underneath. Once these burrows were found the people dug deep to collect the frogs, which are later cooked over the coals of a fire.
