‘Forever, since I was 16 years old, I saw the three little birds at Wallace Rockhole, near Ntaria, Hermannsburg, Western Aranda Country, my father’s & mum’s people. One red, one yellow, and one blue.
Fascinating, amazing, heavenly.
Took a while to get a good look. They led away quite a long way, but they settled in one small tree. Mesmerised by being there, seeing this on the first day I arrive at the juvenile place in the bush, I then realised my intuition is telling me this is too freaky, too pretty and how, just at this moment in time, can I be seeing these three birds, who at first I thought to be robins. It wasn’t until years later I found out them to be fairy wrens.
Is actually Kadatji Man, so I ran all the way back to the station. Never told a soul, because I was told not to go in that direction when I first arrived. The boss, my uncle, told me the kids were skipping over there, looked up, Kadatji Man standing right there near them all painted up, oops.
Years later I start painting and here they are again, or should I say, here he is again.’ – Cameron
