Katanari Nancy Tjilya

Katanari is from Tjurma Arts, but paints with the women at Minymaku Arts most days. In this painting Katanari has moved away from her more decorative style to create an abstract image using the wira or bowl as a design or walka (concentric circles) while also depicting rock holes. Katanari has been working on a series based on this design since the beginning of January 2003. Minymaku walka wiru translates as women’s bowl design. Minyma – women Ku – indicates owner, custodian, rightful owner walka – design or drawing wira – small bowl used for digging.
